Education and Community Outreach

Rockport Music fosters an appreciation of and accessibility to music through programs at the Shalin Liu Performance Center, in the community, and for schools on Cape Ann and beyond.

Programs at the Shalin Liu Performance Center:
During the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, held annually in June and July, Education and Outreach events include lectures, open rehearsals, Family Concerts, Prelude Suppers (featuring a pre-concert lecture), and master classes.  Events at the Performance Center offered throughout the year include free Community Concerts at the conclusion of School Residencies, a Spring Lecture Series, designed to enhance the listening experience of adults, musical programs for school students, and Rockport Music Youth Council programs.  The Performance Center and reception space are open during three of Rockport’s annual town festivals; "Mofit #1" Day in the Spring, Harvest Festival in the Fall, and First Night on New Year’s Eve. Rockport Music offers a limited number of free tickets to youths 18 and under to the summer Festival concerts, and all classical and jazz concerts presented by Rockport Music.

Programs in the Community include HARP (Healing Arts Rockport), an outreach to children and young people with life-limiting or behavioral illnesses, and a free Community Concert in Gloucester, MA. Other community partners include Rockport Public Library and Gloucester’s Sawyer Free Library.

For Schools: Rockport Music presents annual programs that feature curriculum tie-ins between music and other academic subjects. High-caliber professional musicians present interactive programs to small groups of students, hold workshops for student performers, and give lunchtime concerts.  Interactive programs are also given by Boston area college students and area professionals, including programs featuring Music of other Cultures.  Trips off Cape Ann to hear concerts are available to students and their parents.
